Presentation of the month "Groups 007"

The conference is part of a larger, quite exciting event at the CIRM: For the whole month of February ( 2/5 - 3/3 ), under the heading Groups 007, there will be held a sequence of 1-week conferences:

Random walks on groups ( 2/5 - 2/10 )
Outerspace and Teichmüller space ( 2/12 - 2/17 )
Aspects of hyperbolicity, convergence groups ( 2/19 - 2/24 )
Combinatorial, algorithmic and cryptographic aspects ( 2/26 - 3/3 )

Presentation of the week

The outspoken goal of the week at the CIRM is to bring together the top experts on the two subjects:

Outerspace and the group of (outer) automorphisms of the free group on one hand,
Teichmüller space and the mapping class group on the other,

with the idea to make a particular effort for these two communities to amalgamate and to learn from each other.

This is in particular relevant to the speakers of the mini-courses (between 1 and 4 plenary lectures): the latter are expected to be accessible also for the members from the "other" community. At present, the list collegues who have (tentatively) agreed to give such a mini-course consists of:

This conference is in particular held in honor of the 20-th "birthday" of Culler-Vogtmann's Outer space.
